Big Yard Escapes

As the COVID-19 restrictions began to lift here in NSW, it was time to start planning an overdue escape from the city for a few days. Added to the mix was a direction to take leave from my full time employer (it seems I have too much accrued).
Timed with a long weekend that would no doubt be full of others looking to do exactly the same thing it was time to decide on a location.
Knowing the Ski Fields were yet to open I decided that Jindabyne would be the perfect place to escape for a few days before it started to get busy with snow lovers. I knew I wanted to stay somewhere I could switch off and really enjoy the down time, preferably in picturesque surrounds and with a little comfort and some unique character.
Finding myself on the Riparide website (https://www.riparide.com/) I found an off-grid tiny house surrounded by snow gums that looked perfect! That tiny house was called “Wilderness” and is one of two on the property know as Big Yard Escapes. (just 10 minuites outside Jindabyne)
ucked away on 63 acres of native bushland with big trees and the Mowamba River where wildlife roams and cows might pay a visit to the campfire.
The wilderness is at your doorstep, it is peaceful and home to wildlife including kangaroos, deer and lots of birds.
Walk down the hill to the river and head upstream where there’s a deep waterhole and some small cascading waterfalls. Sit beneath huge trees and hear nothing but mountain water tumbling over boulders.
There’s also plenty of activities nearby if that’s what you are after, including:

- Scenic Drives
- Local Distillery’s and Cafe’s
- Trout Fishing
- 4WD Adventures
This completely off-grid Tiny House uses solar power, bottled gas and river water stored in tanks. There’s even a self-composting toilet.
